ECDL Cyprus Team

Antonis Antoniou

Coordinator

Personal Profile

Following my studies in the UK I worked for 6 years in the Computer industry. I worked as a Computer Systems Engineer for 3 years in a major private sector firm. Following that I was IT manager of the “Ford Motors” dealership in Cyprus for three and a half years.  In addition to IT, I was involved in Senior Project Management (for various projects). After moving to the Government Sector, I now have 11 years of experience in Education, teaching Information and Communication Technologies.

I am an ECDL Certified Training Professional and lecture at ECDL Advanced Level.  I chose to get involved in the Thesaurus project as I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of the subject. The Grundtvig programme has a really good reputation and offers us the opportunity to carry out exciting research, learn new things and widen our horizons. This project will enable me to meet and interact with new people from other European countries and I look forward to discover a lot more about different cultures and traditions, allowing me in a way to immerse myself in the diversity that Europe is so proud of. Hopefully, I might be able to contribute to it as well by letting the Europeans we meet learn about our culture as well.

Personal Profile

After my graduation from the University in 1985 I worked for two years in the private industry as a Programmer/Analyst. In 1987 I started my career in higher education at the Higher Technical Institute, Nicosia where I reached the post of Senior Lecturer. Since 2008 I hold the post of Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences of the Cyprus University of Technology. I have been involved with the Cyprus Computer Society since 1996 and I participated in a number of European Projects under the Leonardo Da Vinci and Grundtvig Programmes. I hold the position of the ECDL Cyprus Project Manager since the introduction of the ECDL programme in Cyprus in February 1999. With the closed cooperation of a dedicated team of IT professionals and computer teachers of secondary education we managed to establish the ECDL as the standard certificate of IT skills for end-users in Cyprus. My involvement in the Thesaurus project was the natural result of my close cooperation with my associate and friend Antonis Antoniou who recommended it to ECDL Cyprus as an opportunity to expand our international horizons. I personally envisage contributing to the success of the project and I look forward to close cooperation with all project partners. The versatile origins of the project partners will give us all the opportunity to discover and appreciate different cultures and traditions, establish new friendships and contribute to the expansion of the European spirit of diversity.
